The genre for April in the 8th grade literature class was a How-to-Project. Students were required to read a how-to book and create the item. The students had to create the project at home or demonstrate it in front of the class.
The 5/6 grade students also had to write a how-to report. One student chose to write about and demonstrate how to do the soccer rainbow. Very impressive.

Eaton Alumnus, Alex Beach, doing great in college.
May 2, 2012 - by Margie Cohan
Remember Alex who graduated last year at 13? The letter below is from his mother, Melinda.
Hey,
Can’t believe Alex is now an official Sophomore. He made the President’s List this semester. He got high A’s in all of his classes, Cal II, Physics I (Cal based) Chemistry I and all his labs. Please let Mr. Mitchell and Ms. Ejafi know. His professors have seen a big change in him. In his classes, this semester, the students started to respect and look up to him more and ask him for help, not just because he was getting the highest test scores, but they realized he was smart and how hard he worked, even though he still flaps, jumps and doesn’t always act or talk like everyone else. This is what the professors have told me. He is actually trying to remember student’s names and trying to talk with them. Although usually he and I have to talk about how to approach them or how to say something about a test or assignment so he doesn’t make them feel stupid. He is still not the best about that. He doesn’t mean to, but it does. He is going to take a public speaking course this summer for an elective. He still plans on starting to attend Georgia Tech. next summer. We are going to do a summer session there so both of us can adjust to the new campus, traffic, and me finding things to do or just a good place to wait.

The high school Science Fair was a huge success. Projects ranged from family genealogy to a video game for the visually impaired. Winners will be announced next week.
Enjoy the photos and videos below.
Cory, a student in the Chemistry class is seen here experimenting with Mentos candy. He has used 4 different types of carbonated drinks based on sugar content to determine the formation of gas. The results in the video show that Diet Coke, due to artificial sweetener, created a chemical reaction that measured 10 feet into the air.

Goal Setting in W.O.W (Word of the Week)
April 17, 2012 - by Jennifer Grant
Our words of the week are setting goals. The young elementary class created posters showing goals they were working toward. During this week’s assembly, the school watched a video about James Cameron’s struggle to reach his goal of diving to the deepest part of the ocean.
