Food Drive Update

Eaton Academy Students Fill NFCC Empty Pantry Can you help too?

On Friday, February 24, students from Eaton Academy will deliver food and pantry items to the North Fulton Community Center.

Using the Academy’s character education program, BEST, the students created the idea to raise materials for the Center in an attempt to restock their pantries which empty every month. These ten students organized the project, created flyers for advertising within the school, and collected and sorted food and pantry items.

North Fulton Community Charities (NFCC) is a non-profit human service agency dedicated to preventing homelessness of individuals residing north of the Chattahoochee River in Fulton County (Alpharetta, Johns Creek, Milton, Mountain Park and Roswell). NFCC assists families with basic needs such as food, rent and utilities, and clothing during short term emergencies. The organization helps the less fortunate people of North Fulton County and last year assisted more than 5000 families with food and financial assistance. In 2011 alone, they distributed food over 20,500 times, provided clothing vouchers to 2,000 families, and gave $1.2 million dollars to our clients in need of financial assistance.

The Eaton Academy students’ initiative to help others in their county is an inspiring example of community awareness and compassion. Together they have collected a substantial number of items and are addressing a problem that only requires us to reach out. To view the most recent pictures of the students’ activities using BEST, visit http://www.eatonacademy.org. For more information, or if you would like to donate or volunteer, visit the North Fulton Community Charities website at http://nfcchelp.org/.

High School Visits the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta

Friday, May 13th, 2011 - by brianu

As an extension of our high school social studies curriculum, students toured the Federal Reserve and its Monetary Museum today. Led by Mr. Nolen and Ms. Jordan, the group spent two hours at the FED exploring the history of money, viewing interactive stations about the money supply, and examining a $100,000 bill and a $600,000 gold bar (27 pounds)!

Students also learned about counterfeiting and got to sit in the Boardroom of the Southeast District of the Federal Reserve System.

After the tour, students, staff, and parent volunteers lunched at Chic-Fil-A and returned to school.

Mr. Nolen would like to thank the following parents for driving on and chaperoning this instructive field experience: Eileen Garber, Jane Schmanske, Tasha Eire, Barb Lyon, and Doug Beighley.

High School Newsletter: 2/17/2011

Thursday, February 17th, 2011 - by bepartalis

Dear Parents of High School Students:

The timing looks perfect for our four-day weekend!  I hope everyone has a chance to enjoy the spring preview.

Tennis Club started up this week, and we had another great turnout for our first lesson and practice of the spring.  Bowling continues to be a popular club, and I encourage you to stop by sometime and watch (or even participate in) the fun!  Senior portraits were taken this week, and caps and gowns are currently being ordered for our soon-to-be graduates. High School Update; 1/28/11

Friday, January 28th, 2011 - by bepartalis

Dear Parents of High School Students:

Happy Friday!  It seems that we’re back to a ‘normal’ schedule now, with most of the weather threats seemingly behind us.

The clubs and activities progress is underway.  Bowling forms were sent home at the beginning of the week, and we have had a great response!  It looks like we’ll have a good group to pick up the Tennis Club again this spring, as well.  We are still looking for a few more participants to make the Wednesday afternoon Gymnasium Days (basketball, floor hockey, frisbee, etc) and the Flag Football Club a ‘go’. High School October 1st Newsletter

Friday, October 1st, 2010 - by bepartalis

Dear Parents of High School Students:

Fall is finally here!  We quickly changed climates, but I’m not complaining…

We’re six weeks into the new school year, and clubs and activities are up and running.  The Screamin’ Chinchillas Bowling Team just had its second meeting yesterday, a day after the first outing of the Tennis Club.  Both have had fantastic participation and a lot of fun.  Please note that there will be no bowling on Thursday, October 14th, as we have a 12:15pm dismissal to prepare for conferences.

September 10th Newsletter

Friday, September 10th, 2010 - by bepartalis

Dear Parents of High School Students:

It seems like only a few days ago we were talking about our summers and picking up our fall schedules at orientation! Three weeks have already passed, and we are at the end of our first grading period. Thank you again to all who attended our orientation; it really helps us get the year started smoothly.

Student surveys were posted in the hallways and the locker room for two weeks to determine interest in clubs and activities. The enthusiasm for continuing our Screamin’ Chinchillas Bowling Team was impressive, and permission forms will be coming home next week. We are also very close to reaching our minimum numbers for a Tennis Club; if your child has been considering tennis, yet didn’t sign the list, please let me know so that we can move forward and reserve some court time.

We also had an overwhelming response to our survey on the Key Largo Marine Lab trip in November. Thank you for returning these forms so quickly. We will be sending home more information regarding plans next week.

Lunch service starts today! Thank you to all families who participated this month, as every order you place helps maintain the program for all of the students. Please keep our sponsoring restaurants in mind for your evenings out, and let them know that you are an Eaton Academy family when dining there.

As we continue to make efforts to both improve efficiency and reduce our use of paper (and stamps), my newsletters will be posted here at least every three weeks. Please check here regularly for updates. I will also be using the group email format to send short reminders, so contact me if you are not receiving them.

Three-week grades will be uploaded to your parent portals this weekend. Remember that students with averages of 75 or above in each of their classes now qualify for 2:25pm dismissal Monday through Thursday. Help Session remains available on these days (and we encourage attendance), but it is only mandatory for students with ‘Incompletes’ or grades below 75 in any class. Students who have not achieved the 75 threshold for the first three weeks will be required to attend Help Session until the next three-week report is issued on October 1st.

Thank you for all of your communication and support, and as always, please stay in touch~

High School Newsletter – April

Thursday, April 22nd, 2010 - by bepartalis

Dear Parents of High School Students:

My car is the color of a tennis ball, so that must mean that spring is here! Once spring break has passed, the remaining weeks seem to fly past. We’ll be watching our seniors graduate in no time!

Most of our clubs have been wrapping up in the past few weeks. Flag Football and Advanced Tennis ended in the last week, and we enjoyed beautiful weather on our final outings. The yearbook has been submitted for publication, and Mr. Nolen and his staff are proud of the edition that you will receive. We still have two more weeks of bowling, and then it’s time to concentrate on preparation for final exams!

Finals will be held on May 19th through the 21st. We will hold two final exams per day, and the second final will end daily at 12:15pm. Students may not be taking final exams in each of their classes, so teachers will be discussing individual exam schedules in their classes. If you have any questions about final exams or the schedule, please feel free to contact me here at school.

Please remember that our Evening of Celebration will be held on the evening of May 13th. I hope that you and your family plan to attend to see our students recognized for outstanding accomplishments in addition to our seniors’ graduation walk. Reservations can be made through Karen Erickson at our reception desk.

Also, as you’re planning ahead, please contact us if you’re planning to take advantage of any of our summer programs. Staffing and materials need to be prepared in advance, and we want to make sure that the course or program in which you have interest is being offered. Insufficient numbers as we approach the summer could lead to courses being removed from our offerings. In addition to our for-credit summer courses, we will be offering two programs for students in Mrs. O’Brien’s, Mrs. Kern’s, and Mrs. Wood’s classes. Each program will have its own focus and objectives, and information is available through any of these teachers and/or the front office.

Fifteen-week grade reports will be uploaded to the server in the next couple of days, and you should be receiving an email notice to their presence in your student’s portal. These grades represent the final progress report prior to final exams and should provide a good idea of standings as we wrap up the semester.

Let’s all work together to impress upon our students the importance of these final weeks as we head into final exams!

As always, stay in touch.

March High School Newsletter

Thursday, March 25th, 2010 - by bepartalis

Dear Parents of High School Students:

It appears that the roller-coaster weather pattern we’ve had will level off just in time for us to enjoy a nice, warm spring break in one more week! I’m not anticipating any more snow days, at least…
