On Friday, September 11, we concluded the first month of the 2020-21 school year! Under normal circumstances that fact is not worthy of commemoration or even notice. However, in today’s bizarre world, I think that everyone in the Eaton Community deserves a hearty “Well Done!” This article reiterates some of the key elements that have helped β and will continue to help β our community stay safe during the COVIDl-19 pandemic.

In many cases families today feel that they have very little choice when it comes to the question of, “Do I send my child back to school this fall?” At Eaton Academy, there has never been a time with more educational options from which parents may choose. The stress and confusion of this moment simply cause families to narrow their vision when they should be expanding it.

Eaton Academy’s small class sizes and abundant rooms provide a great environment in which health safety protocols can be effective. The administration has worked carefully to design and implement appropriate health policies in order to keep students and staff as safe as possible in person. For those online students, teachers are hard at work to create engaging, substantive virtual lessons. All situations cannot be answered by one school, but Eaton Academy endeavors to offer a wide range of academic support.

On July 9 a news team from CBS46 visited Eaton Academy to do a story on our plans for fall. Rebekka Schramm and her crew spent almost two hours filming and interviewing staff members who spoke about our plans to provide in-person classes. The reason CBS46 came to Eaton is that we are one of the few schools ready to let news crews in and discuss protocols for COVID-19 and its impact on bringing students physically back to school. When the calendar turns to June, itβs time to roll out our summer programming. In the strange world of today, we have had to make some adjustments to our usual bill of fare. On Saturday, May 30, we held our graduation ceremony for the Class of 2020. Normally, graduation is part of our Evening of Celebration, an all-school event that we host at the Roswell Mill to honor our students of all ages. This year in deference to the need for social distancing and to host an event in the safest environment possible, we gathered with just our graduates, their families, and their teachers in front of our building at 9:00 in the morning.

With the 2019-20 school year having just concluded, I want to thank the parents of our students for entrusting us with their education. Helping them to grow socially and emotionally and to advance academically is why Eaton Academy exists. Seeing our students laugh and learn brings joy to everyone on our staff.

As we all know, circumstances are not normal right now. Our hearts break knowing that we will not be able to celebrate the year-end achievements of all our students, particularly the seniors. And we’re using our Facebook page to share images and videos of our 2020 graduates doing “senior things”. Please check out this blog post!
