This week’s W.O.W. is kindness. To illustrate the “power of words”, upper and lower elementary students were each given a piece of paper. They had to pretend it was a person and say something kind to it. The paper stayed smooth. Then each of them said something unkind to their paper and crumple it up. They apologized to their paper and tried to smooth it out, but the wrinkles stayed. This demonstrated how the effects of their unkind words or actions didn’t disappear even though they apologized. We also discussed “filters” and how bad things stay in the filter and only the good comes out. A visual, along with a “Before you speak….” poster has been displayed in the room as a reminder to be kind to one another.
