Students in Ms. Hrabosky’s tenth grade English class composed a descriptive essay on a person or something that was important to them or that they found interesting. This unit allowed students to focus on using precise words to create a strong impression, including sensory details, a variety of figurative language, and logical organization that clarified connections between details in order to produce an accurate description of why their topic was so valuable to them. Students ended the unit with a peer-edit and self-edit day which allowed them to play editor and learn how important it is to proof read their work before turning in a final draft.
