Eaton’s Best-Kept Secret

In our twenty-three years of existence, Eaton Academy has become known as a premier educational institution that provides highly effective customized educational programs, designed to meet the personal needs of students of all ages in metro Atlanta and beyond.

You Probably Know…

You probably know that we have an Elementary School Program, a Middle School Program, and a High School Program.

You may know that in addition to offering small-group classroom instruction, we also offer:

  • two flavors of Independent Study (Basic and Individual Instruction)
  • two highly-customized, non-traditional self-paced programs (Mentor Room and PACE)
  • a self-paced Distance Learning Program that allows students whose circumstances do not fit the traditional school schedule (home schoolers, athletes, performers, students with health issues, etc.) to earn credits toward graduation
  • an online Virtual Academy for students — anywhere in the world — to participate in a comprehensive college-prep K-12 curriculum

You may also know that since 2014 we have been offering a Post-Secondary program with four options (LEAP, LEAP with Support, LIFE, and Supported Employment) for students who have completed high school but are not quite ready for college.

And maybe you know that we offer Summer School, Summer Camp, K-8 Enrichment Programs, High School Activities, Field Experiences, Early Drop-Off, and After Care.

But Did You Know about Post-Graduate Studies?

As we continually reflect on the effectiveness of our programs, we have noticed that many students who have completed high school and intend to move onto college find themselves anxious and uncertain about taking that next big step. We also noticed that parents want to know if their child could handle college-level work.

In the fall of 2018, after a year of careful planning, we established our Post-Graduate Studies program.

The Post-Graduate Studies program, which is described here, consists of two pieces:

  • College Exploratory Courses
  • ACCUPLACER Testing And Support

The College Exploratory Courses are designed to ease those feelings of uncertainty and help students sharpen their academic skills as they prepare for the college experience. Students enroll in two classes a semester, allowing them to experience what it is like to attend college classes. We are able to give the students and the parents feedback regarding their college readiness.

The ACCUPLACER Testing and Support component is a comprehensive battery of tests designed to help students determine which classes they are ready for at the college level. This test is typically taken at the college to which students are applying. However, Eaton Academy is approved to offer this exam so that students can take it here in an untimed and low-stress environment. We can also provide tutoring for the exam.

Who Is Eligible?

Our Post-Graduate Studies program is open to high school graduates and students in their senior year of high school. It is not restricted to Eaton students and graduates. We require an interview and a high school transcript.

Students apply by contacting me by email at Dfix@EatonAcademy.org.

Subjects Offered

We offer College Algebra, College English, College History, and a First Year Seminar to get students familiar with the requirements and the content of college classes.

How Is The Program Working So Far?

So far this year we have had four students enroll in the program.

After the first semester with us, we felt that two of the students might be ready to attend college for credit. They took the ACCUPLACER exam (one here with us and the other at the college he was planning to attend). Both students passed the ACCUPLACER and were accepted to colleges of their choice! We have followed up with both of these students, and I am most pleased to report they are both doing well in college!

The other two students stayed on with us for the second semester to continue to hone their skills.

Let’s Talk!

If you think you or your child might benefit from our Post-Graduate Studies program, please get in touch. Call Eaton at 770-645-2673 and ask for me, Dawn Fix, or email me at Dfix@EatonAcademy.org.

And please spread the word. I’d be willing to bet you know at least one high school senior or graduate who might benefit from this program.

Share this blog post on your social media platforms!

Talk it up at your neighborhood graduation barbecues!

Call that niece or nephew or granddaughter or grandson who could use a program like this.

We truly believe — and our experience to date bears witness — that our Post-Graduate Studies program is a welcome and needed addition to our already robust suite of educational programs. It can really make the difference in the life of a child.

As with all of our programs, we welcome referrals from high school counselors, doctors, and other professionals in the area.

If you have questions, please contact us. And feel free to post questions and comments below.

Thanks for listening!
