Financial Support Programs for Eaton Students

Over the last week, we hosted three meetings with parents (two in person and one virtual) to provide information about programs that offer financial support. We recorded the online meeting, and you can view it here or on YouTube.

Programs outlined were GASSO, Bobby Dodd Institute (BDI), Now/Comp Waiver, InCommunity, and GAFutures. Below are brief summaries of these agencies.

GASSO

GASSO is a Student Scholarship Organization that is funded through the Georgia Private School Tax Credit and makes scholarships available to qualified individuals. Individuals, married couples, and S corporations can elect to “re-direct” a portion of their Georgia income tax liability to GASSO and by doing so receive a direct tax credit. The re-directed funds are then made available to the designated school as scholarships.

Bobby Dodd Institute (BDI)

Bobby Dodd Institute’s Family Support Services provides funding for services and support programs based on the qualifying individual’s needs. Some examples of eligible services are medical/therapeutic supports, in-home and community supports, and recreational activities. To qualify for BDI funds, an individual must have a diagnosed intellectual or developmental disability.

NOW/COMP Waiver

NOW/COMP waivers are similar to the supports from BDI and InCommunity, but they tend to offer greater financial assistance for longer periods than the other agencies. The services covered are also similar to BDI and InCommunity. Individuals can receive NOW/COMP waiver support once they turn 22.

InCommunity

InCommunity is another agency that offers financial assistance in a variety of areas for individuals with specific, diagnosed disabilities. This support can help with many types of therapy, summer camps, and specialized medical supplies as well as other services.

GAFutures

GAFutures is a service of the Georgia Student Finance Commission. It provides programs that benefit students seeking information about the HOPE scholarship, career planning, and dual enrollment. Georgia students can pursue dual enrollment options with local schools at no charge.
