On May 1, 2026, a group of students and teachers from the Independent Study Program (ISP) traded the classroom for the cosmos. The destination? The International Space Station (ISS)—or at least, the most realistic version of it available on Earth.
Our group attended THE INFINITE, a groundbreaking immersive experience that pushes the boundaries of virtual reality and storytelling.

A Mission Inspired by NASA
THE INFINITE isn’t your typical VR simulation. Inspired by actual NASA missions, the experience is built around stunning 3D 360° cinematic VR footage. What makes it truly special is that this footage was filmed both inside and outside the ISS, giving our students an unfiltered look at the high-tech, high-stakes world of orbital research.
Life in Low Earth Orbit
During the one-hour journey, students and teachers were able to:
- Go Inside the ISS: We explored the narrow corridors and science labs where astronauts live and work, gaining a true sense of what daily life is like in zero gravity.
- The Ultimate Spacewalk: The highlight for many was the virtual spacewalk. Students “floated” alongside astronauts, experiencing the scale of the station against the infinite dark.
- A New Perspective on Earth: From the vastness of space, we witnessed breathtaking views of our “blue marble,” offering a powerful reminder of our planet’s beauty and fragility.
Why It Matters
For our ISP students, this wasn’t just a field trip; it was a lesson in physics, engineering, and the future of human exploration. Seeing the ISS up close—even virtually—brings the science of space to life in a way a textbook never could.
Students and staff were amazed. “It felt like I could reach out and touch the stars. It completely changed how I think about the astronauts working up there right now, ” said one of the students.
THE INFINITE reminded us all that while space may be vast, the curiosity and drive to explore it are even greater. We’re so proud of our students (and staff) for stepping outside their comfort zones and into the stars!
