October 1, 2010 By Jennifer Grant, K-8 Program Director

K-8 Newsletter

Dear Parents,

This Friday students participated in our bi-monthly assembly. Ms. Hall’s students presented one of our character education words – kindness. We also reviewed the “B” in B.E.S.T, discussed upcoming events, and shared cake with our August and September birthday students. Assemblies are always well received by the students, and they continue to be respectful and participate appropriately.

In accordance with our handbook, today was the last day students were permitted to wear shorts at school. We appreciate your support in making sure students come to school dress according to code.  Appropriate school attire is outlined in our school handbook. Please remember that Thursday, October 7 is picture day. Students may dress up or wear Monday-Thursday attire.

Teachers are busily writing narrative reports and calculating grades for our first formal conference. Parents and teachers will come together on Friday, October 15, to discuss the first quarter.  Please look for the conference sheet in this week’s Friday Folder. Fill out your first and second time preferences and return the form to school on Monday. Teachers will send a confirmation slip back in the weekly folders. Conferences are 20 minutes in length.  Please remember that we have early release at 12:30 on Thursday, October 14, and there will be no school for students on Friday, October 15, or Monday, October 18.

During the month of October, most students will be participating in the Science Fair project. The majority of the writing, research, experiments/models, and creation of the boards are completed at school. Students may need to bring in a trifold display board. Please read your child’s teachers’ newsletters and handouts for more information.

We are looking forward to two special events at Eaton in the near future. Our first Fall Carnival will take place on Friday, October 29.  Wood –fired pizza will be available on campus for students to purchase. We are also planning activities and games in the afternoon. Again Friday Folders and newsletters will provide more details.  On Friday, November 12, Eaton will be having a Fall Dance.  After London Wall and Carri Beach approached me with the idea, we took a poll, and 82% of the K-8 students loved the idea. Along with the girls, Melinda Beach has been instrumental in bringing forth information.  More details will follow.

We have had an extremely smooth start to the school year. Thanks again for all you do.

Sincerely,

Jennifer
