Congratulations to our youngest student, Reid Murillo Vargas, for his performance on this year’s Math Kangaroo Competition! Reid is a first grader in our Independent Study Program who has abilities well-above grade level.
This international competition originated in Australia and hosts competitors from over 89 countries. It is held annually on the third Thursday of March. Reid’s performance earned him a national rank of 11 and a second in Georgia!
The challenge includes problems in multiple-choice form that are not simply standard exercises. They come from a variety of topics. In addition to simple computational skills, they require inspiring ideas, perseverance, creativity and imagination, logical thinking, and other problem-solving strategies.
