Eighth graders investigate Newton’s Laws of Motion. Using a fresh egg, cardboard tube and tray, and glass of water, students are able to demonstrate Newton’s First Law. We were able to see inertia displayed by the egg as it dropped intact into the glass of water as the tray was knocked straight out. When the angle of the tray was not perpendicular to the glass, the egg did not drop intact! We learn from what works as well as what does not work!
