To begin the chapter on ecosystems, Mr. Haselden’s Biology I class went to the science lab to complete the pond water experiment. They acquired the pond water from down the street and examined it under a microscope. Students were able to identify the amoeba, volvox and spirogyra.
The spirogyra was thrashing around violently under the slide while the Volvox remained still, except for some moving cilia. The lab was both fun and educational. It reminded the group that biodiversity comes in many forms, including the ones we cannot see with the naked eye.
