As LEAP has expanded, EDGE was born to assist a larger variety of participants. EDGE is an acronym standing for Engage, Develop, Grow, and Empower. The program provides a more individualized approach in a smaller environment with significantly less stimuli in order to not overwhelm to our clients. The goals of this program are job readiness training, life skill development, social skill instruction, and communication skills.
EDGE was created to mirror the fundamentals that are taught in LEAP. Participants in EDGE attend morning worksites and afternoon classroom instruction, but with added support and individualized approaches. EDGE still has the goal of obtaining meaningful employment for its participants, but the instruction is delivered at the needed pace for the individuals in the program.
In some cases, EDGE can be a stepping stone into LEAP. The focus is on refining soft skills and helping participants develop their communication skills. EDGE is a great option for clients and their families who worry that the LEAP program might be overstimulating or overwhelming. With five full time staff members, two of which are trained paraprofessionals, the program allows for more customization and one on one time to address our client’s needs.
