Building Futures Through Books:
Eaton Academy’s College Foundations Program Sponsors a Scholastic Book Fair
At Eaton Academy, education goes beyond the classroom. This month, the College Foundations Program (CFP) brought literacy, leadership, and community together by sponsoring a vibrant and engaging Scholastic Book Fair — an event that inspired students to explore new stories while reinforcing the power of reading in academic success.

A Celebration of Literacy and Learning
The book fair transformed campus into a hub of excitement. Students browsed colorful displays filled with bestselling novels, engaging nonfiction, activity books, and educational resources tailored to a variety of grade levels and interests. From adventure stories to science explorations, there was something for every reader.
The event was a tremendous success, generating more than $1,200.00 in sales — a clear reflection of the enthusiasm and support from students, families, and staff. Those funds will help continue to support literacy initiatives and provide valuable resources for the school community.

Leadership in Action
The fair was organized by CFP Coordinator Moneek Brown, whose dedication to student growth and academic enrichment helped bring the event to life. She was supported by CFP students Ally Arant, Kobey Westmoreland, and Ian McCracken, who played an active role in planning, setting up, promoting, and assisting shoppers throughout the event. Academic Director, Kelly Giles, also helped bring the event to life.
Their involvement demonstrated the heart of the College Foundations Program — not only preparing students academically but also giving them meaningful leadership opportunities. By helping run the fair, these students strengthened important skills such as communication, organization, teamwork, and responsibility.

Why the Scholastic Book Fair Matters
Partnering with Scholastic, a trusted name in children’s publishing, brought nationally recognized titles and high-quality educational materials directly to students. For many families, the book fair offers:
- Access to affordable books
- Opportunities to build home libraries
- Exposure to new genres and authors
- A fun and engaging literacy experience
Most importantly, it encourages students to choose books that spark curiosity and joy — a powerful motivator in developing consistent reading habits.
Connecting Literacy to College Readiness
The College Foundations Program at Eaton Academy focuses on academic growth, goal setting, and cultivating independent living and life skills that position students for post-secondary success. By sponsoring the book fair, the program highlighted the skills needed to be successful in college, on the job, and in life.
Students who read regularly often demonstrate:
- Stronger writing abilities
- Improved academic performance
- Enhanced critical thinking skills
- Greater confidence in classroom discussions
The event served as a reminder that small investments — like a new book — can make a lasting impact on a student’s future.
Looking Ahead
With strong leadership from Ms. Brown and the dedication of CFP students Ally Arant, Kobey Westmoreland, and Ian McCracken, this year’s Scholastic Book Fair showcased literacy, leadership, and community spirit.
The College Foundations Program continues to emphasize an essential truth: when students are given the tools and the chance to display them, their potential is limitless.
