The High School Resource program just finished studying the formation of Greek city-states (in 1500 BC) and all the accomplishments and contributions from the Greeks that we still use today.
We can see the beautiful Greek architecture in many of our public buildings, especially in our country’s capital city at Washington D.C. Specifically, the Supreme Court building and the parts of the State Capital building were designed with Greek influence in mind. Speaking of government, we get our system of Democracy directly from the Greeks!!
We were amazed at the conquests of the brilliant warrior Alexander the Great, and knowing he made his mark in a very short time frame (he died at the young age of 33 years old) simply astonished most of our students.
We will begin to study the Roman Empire when we return from holiday break, and we will have more then.
