April 30, 2010 By Jennifer Grant, K-8 Program Director

The Final Weeks in K-8

Dear Parents,

What a week!  Yesterday students participated in Poem in Your Pocket Day to celebrate April’s National Poetry Month.  Students found published poems and were able to share them with classmates and teachers.  Today, Mrs. Baldrich and Mr. Williams along with the 8th grade Pod students and their parents left for a weekend of fun in Savannah. This annual trip is the exiting culmination of Georgia studies.

The last three weeks of school will be filled with end-of-year events and exams. I have highlighted these below.

Administration of the Brigance Test of Basic Skills will begin on Monday, May 3. Testing will continue all week from 9:00-11:00 a.m.  Please make sure students arrive on time and have a nutritious breakfast. All test scores and the final report card will be sent home in 4 weeks. Students may also begin wearing appropriate shorts on Monday.

Our 4th Annual Enrichment Bowling Party at 5:30 p.m. will be held on Wednesday, May 5. Please don’t miss this fun-filled event. This is an opportunity to see all the enrichment activities that were offered, recognize students who participated in these activities, and spend time with Eaton staff, family, and friends. All students are welcome, whether or not they participated in activities. Please send in your check/RSVP to let us know how many will be coming. The cost is $10.00 per attendee.

Once again we will host the Evening of Celebration at the Roswell Mill on Thursday, May 13 at 6:30 p.m..  Academic awards for grades K-12 will be presented, and our rising 9th graders and graduating seniors will all be recognized. It is always a lovely evening with great food and company. I hope to see you there.

Please remember that there will be no enrichment activities, study hour, or extended day sports the week of May 17.  There are, however, three exceptions. Ms. A’s Sports Club’s last class is May 6 and bowling and music will continue throughout the final week of school.

Final exams for our 7 and 8 grade Pods will be administered on Tuesday, May 18 and Thursday, May 20. Look for more information from your child’s teacher.

Field Day will be held on Friday, May 21 from 10:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. All students will meet at Waller Park Extension for fun and food. Eaton will be ordering pizza and recognizing all May, June, and July birthdays with a cake. Look for more information in next week’s Friday Folder.

Finally, Eaton has various camp offerings and opportunities for tutoring throughout June and July. Please feel free to contact Lizzie or me if you are interested.

 Thanks,

 Jennifer
