Mrs. Giacchino’s 11th graders finished reading The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway and wrapped up the unit by completing a project. Students were asked to pick a dramatic or arts/crafts project from a list of approved projects. Elias created a timeline on a PowerPoint to show the important events of the novel and his creativity. Andrea was the only one who chose to do a dramatic project and produced a shortened script for the novella as well as different scenes and puppets to present to the class as if she were retelling the story. Kevin and Dani created dioramas that depicted various scenes from the novella and used their creativity to make clay boats and various characters. The students enjoyed reading the novella and being able to show their creativity to their fellow classmates.
